Once upon a dish: Ethics Address at EMBL · IBEC Conference on engineered multicellular systems

Amy Hinterberger was invited to present at a conference hosted by the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and the Catalonia Institute for Bioengineering on the ethics of organoid technology. The conference brought together some of the world’s leading scientists to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the expanding field of engineered multicellular systems. Read the excellent meeting review written by Meritxell Huch
and Mina Gouti in Development.

The presentation focused on the potential benefits and risks of organoid technology, which involves growing miniature versions of organs in a lab setting. While this technology has the potential to revolutionize the way we study and treat diseases, it also raises a number of ethical concerns. By working together, we can ensure that organoid technology is developed and used in a way that benefits society.
