Sara Bea is Research Associate in the Department of Global Health & Social Medicine. She works on the project’s Work Package 1 by tracking the development of human organoids in stem cell science, regenerative medicine, and associated regulatory frameworks. Her approach is broadly ethnographic and Science and Technology Studies (STS)-inflected; the work is empirical with a strong theoretical disposition. She enjoys tweaking social science repertoires and interdisciplinary tools that go against the (essentialist, humanist, modernist) grain and her writing aspires to open up analytical interstices between critique and justification. She held a 1+3 ESRC-funded doctoral scholarship and completed a PhD in STS at the University of Edinburgh. Her engagement with organoids and cell-based biotechnologies builds upon her expertise on the clinical practice and public policy of organ procurement for transplantation. Prior to joining the project, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Linköping University, Technology & Social Change, Sweden.
